Share Holders = Owners of the company (as they hold the shares of the company)

Promoters = who initiates and builds the business from the scratch (May not be the current owner)

Director = who runs the business, like a captain of the ship (most likely the highest share holder will be in this position)

If the company’s capital is shared by many people. Profit is also shared by people and they share the asset of the company also. Such people are called as share holders.

Promoter is one who advertises and attracts the people to invest in the company.

Director is the person who has the rights to decide on refund of the share holders money and he has the rights to decide whether the company can share the dividend with the share holders. If not the company will reinvest the money for its future growth. Director is appointed by the owners that is shareholders of the company.

Share holder is one who owns share(s) of a company and they have right to sell and buy those shares and also have rights on the dividend on the no. of shares they own.

Promoter is the person who promoted the company, who initiated it. He may not necessarily have major shares of his company and be one of the board of directors of  the company. But now mostly promoters will be owning major shares to be in position to take the control of the company and make decisions.

Director are appointed by shareholders for making decisions and run the company. They will be owning major shares of the company and may be appointed as directors because of potential to run business successfully.
