Trading is buying and selling of shares and is usually short term. Investment is investing in a company for which shares are issued in return. If the shares are retained for a long term then its an investment, hence its long term in nature.

Investments are where you buy shares, hold on to them for a length of time, and sell to book profit in  a few months going up to a few years.;whereas in trading, you buy shares, hold on to them for a short time and sell  to book profit in a few days, to a couple months maximum.

Investment is holding a stock for long term, for 3 to 5 years. This needs basically a thorough analysis of a company. Mostly it needs fundamental Analysis.

Trading is holding a stock for short term, from 1 day to few months. Technical analysis would be the best for this trading.
