DEMAT a/c is an account where the stocks of a trader are stored

Demat Account is an account opened by investors with brokers to buy and sell shares and securities( in Demat form) in the market. The Shares and Securities are transacted electronically through demat account and money in demat account are used only for such transaction.

DEMAT account is the place where the electronic forms of shares of a particular person is stored, if it is not traded(that is bought and sold) on the same day.  A trading account is enough to trade, on shares, but it cant store the shares if it is not sold and bought on the same day. There comes the importance of DEMAT account.

Demat is dematerialized account where the shares and securities are held electronically in order to avoid loss , forgery and theft of certificates . This increases its eficiency . A Demat account is opened by the investor while registering with the investment broker which links to savings .
