Piercing pattern is not continuous trend pattern. It is trend reversal pattern. If you see it in the bottom you can expect a positive move is gonna take place.

When a green(red)/bullish(bearish) body engulfs previous days red(green)/bearish(bullish) body fully it is known as Engulfing pattern. Engulfing pattern is reversal pattern. If today’s opening price is starting well above/below, keeping a gap, the previous days highest/lowest price than it will be named as Gap. Candlestick analysis is appropriate for Gap Analysis. Four types of Gaps are (1) Area Gap, (2) BreakOut Gap, (3) Runaway Gap and (4) Exhausted Gap.

(1) open a line chart, preferably of 2 years (2) Spot Tops and Bottoms (3) identify Higher Tops, Lower Tops, Higher Bottoms and Lower Bottoms (4) if you find Higher Bottom and then Higher Tops it is Bullish trend….and if you find Lower Bottoms and Lower Tops it will be treated as Bearish Trend.

Dow Theory is developed by Charles H Dow, long back. It observes the market rather than the company fundamentals to arrive at whether there is bullish trend or bearish trend is forthcoming in medium term i.e., in couple of month time.
