As intra-day trades happen on real time (every minute price changes ), positional analytical methods which rely upon data polled from several days to weeks will not be appropriate.

Yes one needs to close position on intra-day, especially on SHORT trades  else you will be deemed default and your broker will be penalized by the exchange.In turn broker will penalize you and may inhibit further trades through the broker.

GAP Analysis can be conducted employing candle sticks & bars chart and cannot be performed using line charts as the gaps are joined together.
GAP is termed as gap between the TOP TAIL of previous candle and BOTTOM TAIL of candle in uptrend or  gap between the BOTTOM TAIL of previous candle and top TAIL of candle in downtrend.
