Long back when we buy shares we will receive certificates and it will be stored in account in a certificate format. but nowadays the format is changed as dematerialized format(DEMAT) account.in this shares are converted into electronic format and stored in DEMAT account.this DEMAT account to be opened with the help of stock brokers.

Shareholder is an individual who legally owns a share which represents part of ownership of a company. (Who shares capital, asset and profit)
Promoter:

No the shareholders don’t have rights to ask for refund, because once the share is issued, the investment made by them will be utilized for the company activities.but they can sell the shares belongs to them
