GAP in technical analysis is nothing but to communicate the strength of the trend.
If there is large considerable change in market,that will lead to gap appearance in chart.
The importance is overnight risk , as we might not be aware of the next day trend, it may go good or vice versa.

Breakout gap,
Runaway gap,
exhaustion gap.
