It depends on what order is placed, and the expectations over the other counter. If both, the buyers and the sellers come in terms with the price, then execution can happen in less than a second.

    Time may vary .
The person may take the help of experts , confidants in buying or selling a particular stock at the favourable price .
when the buyer and seller both agree with a quoted price , trade happens immediately .
But if there is any requirements regarding that stock or waiting for a price change then trade may be delayed .

Time required for trading is very less. It depends on the amount for which you want to buy the share. If the amount you want to buy the share is same as the sellers price the trade happens immediately.

The time required to do trade can vary from a day to years. It all depends on the investor who decides to buy/sell. Before deciding they may take time to do analysis, get experts advice. Overall process may take some time depending on the investor but the time taken to place a buy/sell order is only a few minutes when everything else is decided.

trading requires time only to set the buy and sell orders, however the actual time involved is in doing analysis and understanding which stock to buy and what should be the buy and sell price.
