DEMAT means de-materialising of shares into electronic format. Everything was stored online and people were reduced with the burden of carrying certificates. This in turn has reduced the level of risk of fraud, cheating and misinterpreting the certificates.

A DEMAT a/c is nothing but a Space in Harddisk to hold the information about the stocks owned by a particular person. This will contain the Stock name and number of stocks owned by a person

DEMAT means De-materalised…it is the online stock trading account, in which shares will be stored in electronic format.
