    You cannot actually buy the indices as they are just benchmarks -(but you can invest in index funds -this is similar to Mutual funds )

    NIFTY, SENSEX are just index values. thus they cannot be traded. But using those indices we can trade in options market.

    NIFTY and SENSEX are “indices” of stock market .
    The Sensex is an indicator of all the major companies listed on BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) which is situated at Bombay. The Nifty is an indicator of all the major companies listed on NSE (National Stock Exchange) which is situated at Delhi.
    The Sensex goes up when prices of stock of major companies on BSE goes up and it goes down when the latter goes down. The same condition applies to Nifty.
    These two are the major stock exchanges in the country. Most of the stock trading in the country is done though the BSE & the NSE.
    These two indices play a large role in trading .

    NIFTY and SENSEX are not shares that can be bought or sold, but their index values that can be bought and sold in future and options as trade.

    yes we can trade with f&o. we cannot trade with equity( share) of a market index
