Closing Bell: Nifty end flat amid derivatives expiry

Domestic equity benchmark index nifty ended marginally lower on Thursday due to volatility around the expiry of June derivative contracts. The NSE Nifty dropped 6 points to settled at 11,841 level, led by declines in IT majors Tech Mahindra, which fell more than two per cent followed by Wipro and Infosys. Index heavyweights ITC, Adani Ports and Reliance Industries fell around 1.5-2 per cent each.

Six out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE advanced, led by the NSE Nifty Realty Index’s 1.91 percent gain followed by auto and banking indices. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty IT Index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.68 percent followed by metal and media indices.

Market Update: Nifty reclaims 11,900 mark; Auto, Realty surges 1.6%

Indian benchmark index nifty is holding on the morning gains & reclaimed 11,900 mark during the afternoon session,  tracking positive cues from global markets ahead of the G-20 summit. Except IT,  and Media, all sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the positive zone led by the NSE Nifty Realty & Nifty Auto surged the most up over 1.5% each respectively.

Ten out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE advanced, Nifty Realty index gained 2% on Thursday amid heavy buying in Prestige Group, Oberoi Realty, Godrej Properties, Indiabulls Real Estate Limited and Sunteck Realty Limited.

Morning Update: Nifty above 11,850 ahead of June F&O expiry

The NSE Nifty benchmark moved to 11,873, up 24 points from the previous close. Indian benchmark index nifty were trading higher on Thursday ahead of June F&O expiry due later today. Advances in banking and automobile stocks led the up move however losses in pharmaceutical shares kept the upside in check. Market breadth supported gains with 1061 stocks trading higher on the BSE against 480 struggling with losses.

Meanwhile, Asia markets rise as investors await the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G-20 summit.

Airtel reduces Its Debt Payments

  • Bharti Airtel has prepaid over Rs 22,000 crore of rupee-denominated domestic loans to multiple banks using a majority of the carrier’s Rs 25,000-crore rights issue proceeds, people familiar with the matter said.
  • The payments will sharply reduce Airtel’s net finance costs and free up capital to expand its 4G network and buy spectrum in the next auction to take on Reliance Jio more effectively.
