Closing Bell: Nifty gain for second day; all eyes now on the Budget

The broader Nifty finished above 11,800-mark at 11,847 gaining 51.10 points. The Indian headline index Nifty ended higher for the second consecutive session on Wednesday, lifted by gains in metal, pharma & banking stocks and ahead of June derivatives expiry. Investors wait for clues from the 2019-20 budget which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present on July 5.

Nine out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE advanced, led by the NSE Nifty Metal Index’s 2.73 percent gain followed by pharma, banking and realty indices. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty IT Index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.10 percent followed by FMCG index.

Market Update: Nifty firm above 11,800; Pharma & Realty up 1.5%

Benchmark index were trading higher in the afternoon trade with Nifty above 11,800. At 2:10 hrs IST, the Nifty up 29 points or 0.26% at 11827. About 1012 shares have advanced, 716 shares declined, and 112 shares are unchanged.

On NSE, except for Nifty FMCG & Nifty IT, all other sub-indices were trading in green with Nifty Pharma leading the pack, up 1.55 percent followed by realty and banking indices.

Nifty Pharma is the outperforming sector, up over 1.2 percent led by Aurobindo Pharma which jumped 3 percent followed by Sun pharma, Cadila Healthcare, Biocon, Glenmark Pharma, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Lupin.

Morning Update: Nifty trade higher & regains 11,800 level led by bank, energy, pharma stocks

The NSE Nifty50 edged higher by 23 points to 11,819 on Wednesday. Domestic equity index nifty recouped losses after witnessing a gap-down start, led by gains in index heavyweights ICICI Bank, L&T and RIL. Among sectors, selling seen in the IT, metal and PSU bank, while buying seen in the baking, auto, energy, infra and pharma.

Market breadth was positive, with 982 stocks trading with gains on the NSE and 574 struggling with losses.
