Closing Bell: Nifty sheds 84 points on derivatives expiry

Nifty50 pared gains to finish at 11,642, down 84 points. Benchmark index Nifty ended Thursday’s session in the red, led by losses in financials and metal stocks, amid volatility as the monthly derivatives contracts for April expired. Among sectoral indices, only Nifty Realty index ended in the green, with Nifty Metal index ending 1.86 per cent lower followed by banking, consumer goods and auto sectors.

Ultratech Cement, Grasim, Dr Reddy’s, Bharti Airtel and BPCL, were the top gainers on the Nifty while Infratel, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Maruti and Hindalco fell the most on the index.

Market Update: Nifty pares gains to turn flat

A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 50-scrip NSE Index (Nifty), was trading flat at 5 points or 0.05 percent down at 11,726. Key equity index Nifty were trading negative in the late afternoon deal on Thursday, ahead of April F&O Expiry, following subdued Asian peers. On the sectoral front, Energy and Realty are trading higher, while IT, Metal and Auto are trading lower.

Morning Update: Nifty trade slightly higher ahead of F&O expiry 

The benchmark index Nifty were trading 21 points higher at 11,747. Key equity index Nifty were trading on a positive note ahead of monthly derivatives expiry amid mixed Asian cues. Among sectoral indices, Nifty Media index were trading almost 0.5 per cent higher, followed by pharma and PVT Bank shares while auto and IT are showing minor signs of pressure.

Market breadth was largely in favor of advances on the NSE with 924 shares advancing, 545 shares declining, and 101 shares remaining unchanged.

Maruti Suzuki was trading almost 0.8 per cent lower ahead of the FY19Q4 results later in the day.
