Closing Bell: Nifty falls for third day in a row; Bajaj Finserv, HDFC weigh

The broader NSE Nifty sank 73 points to close at 11,346 on Monday. Indian equity benchmark index nifty fell for the third day in a row, driven by losses in finance stocks like HDFC, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank and State Bank of India amid heavy foreign fund outflow, depreciating rupee and weak global cues.

HDFC and HDFC Bank were the biggest losers in the Nifty pack, plunging 5.06 per cent and 3.30 per cent, respectively, after the private bank reported a rise in non-performing assets (NPAs).

Sectoral indices ended mixed for the day. The Nifty Fin Services index lost 2.6 percent followed by the Nifty Bank and Nifty Private Bank indices, while Nifty Metal, Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma gained the most with shares rising 1.75 percent.

Market Update: Nifty hovers around 11,350 mark

The benchmark index NSE Nifty were trading at 11,344 with a loss of 74 points. Domestic equity key index Nifty50 continuous to stay in red as heavy selling pressure was seen in all banking indices while IT, Media, Metal and pharma sectors were trading in the positive zone.

The top gainers on the Nifty were YES Bank, Vedanta, Maruti, ONGC and Sun Pharma, while the laggards were led by HDFC, which was down 5 per cent and HDFC Bank, which was down 3.3 per cent. Bajaj Finance, Indus Ind bank and Kotak Bank were among the other stocks that dropped lower in the session.

Morning Update: Nifty Continues In Bear Grip

The Nifty slipped 103 points to trade at 11,317 levels, below 11,350 levels. Indian equity benchmark index nifty were trading lower, driven by losses in banking sectors.

Eight out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE traded lower, led by the NSE Nifty Finance 2.03 percent fall. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty Metal Index was the only sectoral gainer, up 0.49 percent. 

Vedanta, Yes Bank, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors and Matuti are among the major gainers on the indices, while HDFC Twins, Bajaj FinServ, Bajaj Finance Kotak Bank are the main losers.

Meanwhile, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 950.15 crore on a net basis, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 733.92 crore as on July 20th 2019.
