Closing Bell: Nifty logs modest gains in volatile trade, all eyes on Fed meet
The NSE Nifty50 failed to hold the 11,700 level and closed at 11,691 levels, up 19 points. The benchmark index nifty end with minor gains as investors treaded cautiously ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s two-day interest rate meeting later in the day.
Vedanta, Coal India, Bharat Petroleum, Power Grid and ICICI Bank were the top contributing stocks on Nifty gaining as much as 2.47%. On the flipside, India bulls Housing Finance, Yes Bank, Maruti, Hindalco, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma and Britannia was top loser.
Shares of Jet Airways nosedived 40.74 per cent to end at Rs 40.50 after lenders to the airline decided to take it to bankruptcy courts.
Market Update: Nifty range-bound ahead of U.S. Fed meeting
Nifty was up by 34 points at 11,706 on Tuesday. Indian equity index nifty were trading range-bound at 11,700 level ahead of US Federal Reserve’s meeting, amid escalating global trade war concerns. All the Nifty sectoral indices except three were trading in the green, with Nifty Media index, up 0.95 per cent, among the highest gainers.
Morning Update: Nifty around 11,700 mark; PSU Bank & FMCG stocks top drag
Benchmark equity index Nifty were trading tepid note in the morning session, amid some selling pressure in consumer goods and PSU bank shares. The Nifty 50 Index were trading 5 points lower at 11,677 While Nifty above its key level 11,700. Sectoral indices such as Pharma, Banking, IT supported the markets however losses in fast-moving consumer goods stocks kept the upside in check. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. About 658 stocks advanced and 806 shares declined on National Stock Exchange.
Investor sentiment remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate meeting capped Asian stocks on Tuesday, while rising crude oil prices also weigh on investor sentiment.
Top gainers on the 50-scrip Nifty index at the time were Zeel, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid, Vedanta, Power Grid, Vedanta, Infosys and Cipla trading with advances of between 1.30 per cent and 2.20 per cent. while Indiabulls HF, Yes Bank and HUL among top losers on the NSE.
