Closing Bell: Nifty settled with modest gains

The broader Nifty50 index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended at 11,690, up 47 points on Monday. The Indian equity index Nifty extended gains for third straight session as information technology, metal, auto and realty shares witnessed buying interest amid positive global cues.

TCS ended nearly 5 per cent higher at Rs 2,110 after posting robust numbers for March quarter of financial year 2019. Meanwhile, Infosys was top loser, the stock fell 2.61 per cent to Rs. 728.20 after its March quarter earnings failed to lift investor sentiment.

SECTOR WATCH

Metal stocks gained the most in the trade with the Nifty metal gained over 2 percent followed by realty and auto counters. On the contrary, PSU banks fell the most with the Nifty PSU Bank index ending 0.40 per cent lower followed by media and pharma indices.

Market Update: Nifty extend gains led by metal & auto stocks

The broader index Nifty was trading higher by 43 points at 11,686 on Monday. Benchmark index Nifty extend the gain in the afternoon trade with Nifty near 11,700 mark. The stocks trading in the positive zone were Coal India, TCS, Tata Steel and Hero motoCorp while the laggards were Sun Pharma, BPCL, IOC and Infratel.

Sectorally, the scrips of metal stocks jumped 2.45 per cent, followed by metal, realty, auto, and banking stocks.

Morning Update: Nifty trade flat after opening on positive note

The NSE Nifty 50 rose 11 points to 11,655 in the morning trade. The benchmark index Nifty were trading flat after opening on a positive note as investors awaited Q4 earnings of individual stocks and sustained FII inflows supported the investor sentiment. Among the sectors, metal, media and banking stocks are witnessing buying, while selling is seen in the media and pharma indices.

In the Nifty pack, 31 stocks were trading in the green, while 19 stocks were trading in the red.

 The Indian rupee erased morning gains and trading lower by 11 paise at 69.26 per dollar versus Friday’s close 69.15.
