Closing Bell: Nifty tumbles in a broad-based sell-off amid rising geopolitical tensions and elevated crude oil prices

The NSE Nifty was down by 90 points at 11,823, at the closing bell.  Indian equity index Nifty 50 fell for third session in a row, led by decline in private sector lenders like Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank stocks amid weak cues from global markets.

Meanwhile, Asian market finished mixed on the last day of the week amid continued uncertainty over US-China trade talks and escalating tensions between the US and Iran after attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday.

All sectors compiled on NSE ended the day negative with Nifty Media stocks took the hardest knock (-2.24%), followed by Nifty Realty, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Bank.

Morning Update: Nifty trade marginally lower on global cues

The broader Nifty50 index dipped 62 points to 11,851 level on Friday. Benchmark index nifty were trading lower after Shaky Start, dragged down by pharma and bank stocks amid mixed global cues, elevated crude oil prices and weak rupee. All the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the red, with Nifty Pharma, Nifty Media, Nifty Realty indices, down over 1 per cent, taking the deepest cuts in the morning trade.

In the morning trade, Power Grid, Wipro, Vedanta, Infratel and ONGC are among major gainers on the Nifty50 index, while losers include India Bull Housing Finance, Zeel, Yes Bank, Indus Indbank and Drreddy.
