Closing Bell: Nifty extends gain for third session; banking, metal stocks shine
The broader NSE Nifty closed 43 points higher at 11,965 levels. Indian equity index nifty closed higher for the third straight session on Tuesday, lifted by gains in banking, metals and IT stocks amid positively traded global stocks.
NSE Sector Performance
Nine out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE advanced, led by the NSE Nifty Metal Index’s 1.3 percent gain followed by metal, media and other banking indices. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty FMCG Index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.16 percent.

Market Update: Nifty extend rally
The NSE Nifty continued to trade higher in the noon session. At about 12.55 pm, the broad-based Nifty was up 39 points at 11,961. On the sectoral front, buying seen in the auto, bank, energy, metal and IT, while selling seen in the FMCG and pharma stocks. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. On NSE, 702 shares rose and 1012 shares fell. A total of 115 shares were unchanged.
Morning Update: Nifty Swings Between Gains And Losses
The broader NSE Nifty were trading 22 points higher at 11,946 on Tuesday. Key equity index Nifty fluctuated between gains and losses in the morning session, Advances in information technology and metal stocks pushed the markets higher, however weakness in pharma, media and realty shares kept the upside in check.
ONGC, Vedanta, HCL Technologies, Tata Motors, Yes Bank and IndusInd Bank were the major contributing stocks on Nifty50 index.
Meanwhile, Asian stock markets were trading higher amid easing concerns over a global trade war after the United States dropped its threat to impose tariffs on Mexico.
The rupee appreciated 16 paise to 69.49 against the US dollar.
