Closing Bell: Nifty register modest gains, supported by US rate cut hopes

The Nifty 50 index rose 84 points to settle at 11,582 levels. The Indian headline index Nifty ended higher on Thursday, led by gains in auto, banking, metal, media and pharma stocks amid positive global market sentiment after US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell hinted at a rate cut later this month.

All of the 11 sectoral indices of NSE posted decent upside with Nifty Media rose the most, up over 3.5 percent, followed by Metal, PSU Bank, Auto and Pharma sector gauges also rose over 1 per cent each.

Market Update: Nifty extend gains

The NSE index was 90 points higher at 11,589. Key equity index Nifty 50 Indexes extended gains in afternoon deals led by buying interest in banking, metal, media and pharma stocks.

The top gainers leading the positive pack were JSW Steel, Zee Entertainment, IndusInd Bank, Hero MotoCorp and IBUL Housing Finance while the laggards were Bajaj-Auto, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, Yes Bank, IOC and TCS.

Market Update: NIFTY hold gains and trading above 10,500 mark

The NSE Nifty 50 gained 0.36 percent and trading at 11,540 on thursday. Indian equity benchmark opened above 10,500 mark led by gains in pharma and metal stocks.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of buyers. About 924 stocks advanced and 504 shares declined on National Stock Exchange.

Ten out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by National Stock Exchange gained. Nifty Pharma Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 1.09 percent. Nifty IT Index, the only loser, traded 0.36 percent lower.
