Closing Bell: Nifty slump for second day as new weekly option roll in 

Indian benchmark index Nifty cracked 54 points or 0.50 per cent to settle at 10,888 on Monday, below its key level 10,900. Domestic stock market key index Nifty extended losses to a second straight session as a mix of factors like weak global cues, including the U.S.-Sino tariff war, lacklustre domestic earnings and a sell-off in index heavyweights like Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindalco, India Bull Housing Finance, Reliance and ICICI Bank.

Among sectors, auto, banking, realty and pharma witnessed selling pressure, while some buying saw in media and IT sectors.  

The top gainers on the Nifty were Tata Steel, Cipla and Indian Oil Corporation while the laggards were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation.

Nifty weekly contracts started from today, the first series will expire on February 14.

Morning Update: Nifty slips below 10,900 mark amid mixed global cues

The benchmark index NSE Nifty were trading at 10,864 with a loss of 79 points on Monday. Indian equity index Nifty50 declined for the second straight trading session below 10,900 level, as signs of stress in corporate earnings amid mixed global cues. Nifty IT Index were the only sectoral index trading in the green with Nifty auto being the worst performer trading 1.77% lower weighed by a fall in the shares of Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motors and Tata Motors.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. On NSE, 387 shares rose and 1140 shares fell. A total of 94 shares were unchanged.
