Closing Bell: Nifty ends lower ahead of earnings season and election

The broader NSE Nifty ended 87 points lower at 11,584 on Wednesday. Indian equity benchmark index Nifty ended lower after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered growth outlook for India and the global economy. Sentiment was also subdued ahead of the fourth quarter earnings season and election.

Sector Watch

Financial stocks bled the most in trade, followed by metals and IT. On the flip-side, Realty stocks advanced the most, up over 1 per cent followed by pharma and auto stocks.

Market Update: Nifty dip in afternoon trade

The NSE Nifty were trading down 54 points at 11617 on Wednesday. Indian equity index Nifty were trading lower in the afternoon deal, tracking subdued Asian peers, ahead of the March-quarter earnings due to start later this week. On the sectoral front, metal, IT, Bank Nifty, and financials were trading lower marginally, while Nifty Realty index rose 1.9%, followed by pharma and auto.

Morning Update: Nifty swing between gains and losses amid weak global cues

The NSE Nifty were trading at 11,660, down 11 points on Wednesday. Equity benchmark index Nifty swung between gains and losses in the morning trade as losses were witnessed in IT, auto, and banking stocks, amid weak global cues. Meanwhile, the Nifty Realty index was trading 2.62 percent up at 279.85 followed by metal and pharma were also trading higher.

Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday cut the growth forecast for India by 20 basis points for the fiscal 2019-20.
