Closing Bell: Nifty plunges more than 100 points in another day of losses

The broader Nifty50 index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped below the crucial 11,400 level to end at 11,359, down 138 points. Indian benchmark index nifty ended lower for their sixth straight session on Wednesday, amid across-the-board selling and weak global cues.

Reliance, Bajaj Finance Limited and Tata Motors were among the stocks that contributed maximum losses to the index.

Sector Watch

All the sectoral indices on NSE ended in the red. Media stocks bled the most, followed by auto, banking and pharma stocks.

Morning Update: Nifty tumble amid global sell-off

The NSE Nifty50 were trading 73 points lower at 11,423 on Wednesday. Nifty were lower today following a selloff in global markets after trade tensions between the US and China escalated. On NSE Sub-indices, except Nifty PSU index, all other sectoral indices fell in the morning trade with media and realty indices slipping the most, down 2.51 & 1.15 as much as respectively.

Top losers in early session were Zeel, RIL, ONGC, Vedanta, NTPC, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, HDFC twins, HUL and SBI, shedding up to 1 per cent.

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel, PowerGrid, IndusInd Bank, Coalindia, JSW Steel and ITC were the top gainers, rising up to 0.50 per cent.

The rupee opened weaker at Rs 69.55 per dollar against Tuesday’s close of Rs 69.43 per dollar.
