Closing Bell: Nifty logs modest gains in volatile trade
The broader NSE Nifty settled 27 points higher at 11,870 level. Reversing a two-session slide, benchmark Nifty ticked modestly higher in see-saw trade on Friday, lifted by financial stocks amid weakness in pharma counters.
For the week, the Nifty index declined 0.7 percent, snapping three straight weekly gains.
Asian markets were mostly higher on Friday as investors waited for concrete signs of progress in the US-Mexican trade standoff.

Market Update: Nifty trades flat paring morning losses
The broader Nifty50 was ruling at 11,855, up 10 points. In a volatile trading session, the benchmark indices pared most of its losses to turn flat in the afternoon trade. Losses in pharmaceutical and energy sectors were countered by gains in financial stocks. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. On NSE, 737 shares rose and 977 shares fell. A total of 115 shares were unchanged.
