Closing Bell: Nifty ends the volatile session below 11,600 mark as RBI cuts rate

Indian benchmark index NSE Nifty was closed lower by 45 points at 11,598 on Thursday, bellow it’s key level 11,600 mark. Key equity index Nifty ends the volatile session marginally lower after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cut the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6 per cent in the first bi-monthly monetary policy meet of the financial year (FY) 2019-20. On the sectoral front, except auto, FMCG and pharma, all other indices ended in red led by IT, bank and metal.

Market Update: Nifty trims losses to turn flat amid RBI outcome

Equity benchmark index were trading 4 points higher at 11,647 on Thursday. Domestic equity index turned flat in the afternoon trade session after the RBI cut repo by 0.25 per cent for the second time in a row. Most Nifty indices were trading in green except IT and Nifty metal index.

RBI Meeting – Key Points

Rate Cut Of 25 bps By RBI

  • Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at its meeting today decided to reduce the policy repo rate  by 25 basis points to 6.0 per cent from 6.25 per cent with immediate effect.

RBI Outlook On GDP Growth Rate

  • GDP growth for 2019-20 is projected at 7.2 per cent – in the range of 6.8-7.1 per cent in H1:2019-20 and 7.3-7.4 per cent in H2.

RBI Outlook On CPI Inflation

  • CPI inflation was projected at 2.8 per cent for Q4:2018-19, 3.2-3.4 per cent for H1:2019-20 and 3.9 per cent for Q3:2019-20.

Morning Update: Nifty trade tepid ahead of RBI policy outcome

The NSE Nifty were trading at 11,652, up 8 points higher on Wednesday. Key equity index Nifty fluctuated between gains and losses in the morning session ahead of RBI’s monetary policy outcome to be announced later in the day. All sectoral indices are giving mixed trends, with gains visible among auto and banking stocks was offset by losses in IT and metal stocks.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers. About 832 stocks declined and 690 shares advanced on National Stock Exchange.

Stocks in Asia tepid as investors await further results from U.S.-China trade negotiations.
